Porchfest - May 13th, 2023

The Bird Brains were back in high fashion this weekend at Somerville Porchfest. Maybe their most anticipated show to date. So many questions from the weekend. Was Cassidy's shirt from the 1970's actually in fact a double XL women's pajama shirt? Fit perfectly if you need a gift idea for that sneaky birthdate coming up. Did Sam Badeau intentionally sabotage his own rig, lose his keys, and bleed his own blood, for attention once again? Only a lead guitarist would know. Does Jake now have re-occurring nightmares about the first time that she really done him? Here's a hint, she/frontman are the pronouns of the one who let him down. Lastly, who the hell are Pat, Mike, and John? RIP to those legends.

All was wonderful though in their return to the main stage and after a long awaited migration from a southern winter. The birds delivered on their promise. Life was in the fast lane and by fast, I mean, those were the quickest Three Steps they could have taken. Southern rock at city boy speed, feels like a Bird Brain special at this point. However, that keeps the crowd moving and the blazing solos from the great Libadeau himself on Fire on the Mountain really had hips shakin out there as Cassidy/Marano fell into that elusive pocket. Speaking of which, where does that Venmo donation money go to? I heard it could be for children with cinnamon allergies, or maybe, to support a Jake Marano gear addiction fueled by trusty Sweetwater salesmen. I'm looking at you two Johnny and Ian; I listed you as my emergency contacts and don't be suprised. You did this. Anderson the avian stepped up with his battered vocal chords to what he might describe as a cocktail that was shaken, not stirred. A mix of tequila, wood tip Black & Mild's, and foamy keg beer is the only recipe he will follow days leading up to a big show because he is beauty or grace.

From Ain't No Sunshine on a beauty of a day, to the tune Shakedown Street, it felt like heaven out there for the birds, if birds even go to heaven. Answer that one Elon would ya. Gratefully, we are alive and could not ask for a better setup this past weekend. We might even be to play Needle & The Spoon at a new-borns baptism after this one. A shoutout to The Basement Boys & the Invisible Animals opening up the show as well. Unbelievable job. Thanks to Aquamanning on the grill, thank you to the Hudson St. guys for hosting, to the gals who saved the day by telling us pea brains to turn on the electricity outside to open up the show, and most importantly thank you to you, the customer. These big wheels keep on turning because of ya'll. It's poultry in motion from here. Bird Brains, OVER & OUT!
